Retailer Excellence Award Winners Announced at Global Pet Expo 2016

Global Pet Expo and Pet Business are proud to announce the winners of the Fifth Annual Retailer Excellence Awards. The Awards Ceremony took place during the Show’s Pet Industry Breakfast on Thursday March 17, 2016. The Retailer Excellence Awards are designed to honor outstanding independent pet stores in a variety of categories. The following retailers received designated awards in each of the 10 different categories:


All Pets Considered of Greensboro, NC
Best Overall Single-Store Retailer: This award recognizes a single-store retailer for excelling in sales, customer service, store design, merchandising and community service.

TailSpin of Savannah, GA
Best Overall Retailer (2 – 10 stores): This award recognizes multi-unit retailers with less than 10 stores for excelling in sales, customer service, store design, merchandising and community service.

Natural Pawz of Houston & Austin, TX
Best Overall Retailer (10 or more stores): This award recognizes multi-unit retailers with more than 10 stores for excelling in sales, customer service, store design, merchandising and community service.

Pet Express of Boston, MA
Best Live Animal Retailer: This award recognizes a retailer that excels in sales, promotion, display and knowledge of the dedicated live-animal category.

Gorge Dog of Hood River, OR
Merchandising Excellence: This award recognizes their outstanding creative techniques to promote sales and services.

Woof Gang Bakery of Orlando, FL
Multi-Service Excellence: This award recognizes their effective offering of a broad spectrum of services including grooming, training, boarding, etc.

Brookside Barkery & Bath of Kansas City, MO
Marketing Excellence: This award honors effective execution in sales and promotional techniques to increase sales and customers including the use of advertising, public relations, social media and more.

Blackbird’s Bowl of St. Morris, IL
Customer Service Excellence: This award recognizes an unmatched level of customer service, demonstrates familiarity with products and services, etc.

Healthy Pet Products of Pittsburgh, PA
Store Design Excellence: This award honors excellence in overall store design including merchandising displays, store layout, curb appeal and more.

Pet Things of Douglasville, GA
Community Service Excellence: This honor recognizes fellowship, integrity and a clear demonstration that the store is committed to giving back to the community.

Tips and Tricks to Designing Your Booth

Global Pet Expo 2016 is just five short months away! That time will pass quicker than you know it, which means it’s time to start preparing your materials and planning the design of your booth, if you haven’t already.

Your booth design and features are an extremely important contributing factor to a successful show. Your booth is your opportunity to ‘wow’ attendees and get them to stop, listen and see what you have to offer. You know the saying, ‘don’t judge a book by its cover?’ Well, it’s a saying because it actually happens, especially at a Show that is the size of 13 football fields!

To help you get started, we compiled five tips we think are important to designing an eye-catching booth that will help you stand out in the crowd:

  1. MessagingMessaging

Believe it or not, the people in your booth and their pitch can make or break an interested party. Define your key messages ahead of time and make sure the booth representatives know how to convey them in a clear, concise manner. Treat everyone like they’re important, because you never know when a key player for your business could walk into your booth. You only get one chance to make a first impression!

  1. Theme

Think about the theme of your booth. Make sure it’s cohesive and Theme
consistent with regards to color, language, decorations, etc. Pro tip: extend that branding to your marketing collateral that will be visible in the booth and handed out to buyers as a take-away.

  1. Logo and Signage

Although presentation of your products is important, your signage is what will draw them in. At the pet industry’s largest annual tradeshow, a good-sized, prominent logo can help buyers easily locate your booth from a distance. Upfront signage with key messaging helps attendees easily decide if they want to engage further.

  1. Lighting, Flooring, and DesignLighting

Whether it comes with your booth tools or from Global Pet Expo’s official vendor, GES Exposition Services, great lighting, comfortable flooring and a cohesive design is key to standing out among the thousands of booths on the Show Floor.

  1. Display Rules

Important information about things like canopies, hanging signage, multi-story exhibits and more can be found in the Display Rules. It’s important to make sure your eye-catching booth is compliant with show management guidelines.

The Natural Pet
is one of the fastest growing specialty sections at Global Pet Expo and across the industry. Located in a new area in the far left of the show floor, this section is reserved for exhibitors who focus on holistic and natural pet products. If you’re interested in green, organic or environmentally friendly pet products, we suggest you add this to your list of destinations on the show floor.

The Boutique is designed with fashion-forward buyers in mind. Now in a new location on the show floor, buyers should head to the right of the entrance to take a walk on the trendy pink carpet if bling, flair and luxury pet products are your thing!IMG_3186

Members of the Media: What to Expect at Global Pet Expo in 2016

If you’ve been to Global Pet Expo in the past, you know that its the place to be to get the scoop on the latest and greatest pet products, new and emerging trends, spending predictions for upcoming years and more! If you have never attended the pet industry’s largest annual trade show, now is the time! Visiting every booth on the Show Floor is equivalent to walking over three miles and you can see, smell, touch and even pet the sweet things our exhibitors bring. After all, all trails lead here!

The New Products Showcase, which boasted over 900 new products last year, is your one-stop-shop for new product and trend stories. If you can’t remember all 900 of them, we have you covered.

Global Pet Expo staff is on hand in the Press Office to provide photos and information on all New Products Showcase winners. This space, dedicated to media, is where you can connect to free wifi, refuel on snacks and drinks, and be front and center for all scheduled press conferences. If you’re interested in something specific, let us know in advance and we will do the scouring for you… even schedule a tour and we’ll show you around!
